Art Saint-Germain-des-Prés organise cette année sa 17e édition, regroupant près de 60 galeries, et, pour cette nouvelle session, une vingtaine de nouveaux adhérents dans ce quartier mythique.
Art Saint-Germain-des-Prés is organizing its 17th edition this year, bringing together nearly 60 galleries, along with around twenty new members, in this iconic neighborhood.
This artistic event brings modern and contemporary art, tribal art and archaeology, as well as design and decorative arts. It unfolds in two phases: on May 28 (from 6 pm) and May 31 (from 11 am to 6:30 pm), the opening receptions of all participating galleries will take place. Sunday, May 31, will also be an opportunity for the district to reconnect with its literary roots: each gallery will host a writer for a book signing. While there may not necessarily be a direct link between the visual and literary works, the aim is to foster a rich and multidisciplinary cultural exchange.
The theme developed this year is "Difference", reflecting the diversity of styles and categories represented. Each gallery will showcase its own uniqueness across a double-page spread, and participants will also receive a "chic city guide" allowing them to discover the hidden spots of the galleries and explore the mysteries of Saint Germain des Près.
On the occasion of Art Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Galerie Loft presents a group exhibition on the theme of “Chinese Contemporary Art.”
Featuring CHEN Man, MA Sibo, LIU Xintao, SUI Jianguo, WANG Keping, LI Chaoxiong, LIU Baomin, QIU Zhijie, CHEN Weinong, HONG Hao, Hao Bao, XUE Song.
Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Marie-Claire, Cosmopolitan, Officiel, Esquire, Madame Figaro China… none could do without her and her instantly recognizable photos. Chen Man has also produced advertising campaigns in China for Lancôme, Motorola, Adidas, Nike, Max Factor and L'Oréal. Through her unique aesthetic, she now explores contemporary themes, always inspired by traditional elements of China, which allow her to decipher today's society from the inside.
Strongly inspired by Impressionism, Ma Sibo likes to paint "fuzzy and imperceptible" landscapes where shadow and light enter into dialogue. His color-graded, layered and retouched works draw viewers into a poetic dream world. The everyday objects that inhabit his paintings specifically evoke the era of the 1990s in China and unfold as a staging of memory, personal but also collective.
Liu Xintao was born in 1968 in Xichang, in the Chinese province of Sichuan. He graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1992. He currently teaches at the Leshan Academy of Fine Arts, and divides his life and work between Beijing and Leshan.
Born in Qingdao, Shandong province in 1956, Sui Jianguo studied sculpture at the Shandong Academy of Fine Arts, then at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where he now serves as a professor and director of the sculpture department. World famous for his dinosaurs and his Mao jackets, Sui Jianguo has exhibited all over the world and his works are present in many public collections
Wang Keping is one of the most eminent members of Stars Art Group (xing xing 星星画会) , a foundational movement of the contemporary Chinese avant-garde active in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His wood sculptures blackened by fire and were firstly inspired by totem and by idols who reminded of folkloric tutelary figures in north of China and in Korean. Then his creation turned to the simple formes with the themes : women wearing a bun, kiss/couple, bird, masculine figures with tail, and a pair of teat. The simplification and purification were embodied in his sculptures, moreover, in the best cases reminded of Constantin Brancusi’s works.
In research of the meaning of life, Li Chaoxiong (Arx Lee), a genius illustrator, gradually creates different poetic universes where the heroes and dreamers live. Since his childhood, the artist is immersed in the world of superheroes, cartoons and illustration. Developing his style in different artistic disciplines, such as painting, illustration, design, sculpture and photography, Li has gradually found his own language and mastered the codes of literary narration and of plastic and digital composition. Undoubtedly his unique painting style and figurative language are representative of what China has best to offer among the young generation.
Born in 1968 in Xi’an, China. Living and working in Beijing, China.Liu Baomin got his diploma in 1989 from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts (major in oil painting). The core of his work is the tension between reality and illusion, in an hyperrealistic manner consisting of portrayals seen through wet glass. He believes that it is because of consumerism that people put “value” on all sorts of things, on every aspect of life, and not just objects
Qiu Zhijie is born in Fujian Province in China in 1969. In 1992 he graduated from The National Academy Of Fine Art and he works in the printmaking department. But now he lives in Beijing as a full-time artist. As well as an art critic and curator.
Son of a calligrapher, Chen Weinong, born in 1962 in the province of Zhejiang, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1988. He freely interprets the rules of calligraphy; his art blends abstract art techniques with traditional Chinese calligraphy.
