Towers & Spires<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The 1960s were an opportunity for Marino di Teana to concretely adapt the reflections and theories he had been developing for more than a decade. His sculptures are no longer conceived in an architectural perspective, but constructed as projects that actually became sculpture-models. The many towers and spires he creates at this time are particularly representative examples. Modern Dungeon or Tribute to Paul He\u0301roult are indeed futuristic towers and the focal center of the \u201cfuture cities\u201d or \u201changing cities\u201d that Marino imagines as part of his global project for the modernization of local urban architecture. His Garden Tower is also a fascinating example of the adaptability of Marinian architecture to its environment, for it is possible to vary its height by adding or subtracting floors. This attraction to the privileged shape of the \u00abtower\u00bb in the artist\u2019s work also shows that he was aware of the urban problems associated with population explosion. By raising the height of his architectural creations to the maximum, he aimed to reduce the ground area while maximizing living space.<\/p>\n

Born in 1920 in Italie, Francesco Marino di Teana<\/strong> was graduated of the Fine- Arts school of Buenos Aires (Argentine), and then moved to France in 1953.<\/p>\n

Painter, sculptor, architecte, philosopher and poet, he devoted his whole life and all his creation to discover, develop and construct the modelization projects of urban space. He undertook numerous public and private purchases between the 1960s and the 1990s in France and as well in Europe, a set of Fontaines Monumentales at Grand Palais (Paris), the 21 meters high Liberte\u0301 in the Fontenay-sous-Bois which is the biggest sculpture of stainless steel in Europe (1990). Presented as well in many museums, like the National Museum of Modern Art, Marino di Teana was subject to a retrospective at the Muse\u0301e d\u2019art moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1976. He also represented Argentina to the Venice Biannale in 1982 and won the Commandant Paul- Louis Weiller de l\u2019Acade\u0301mie des Beaux-Arts Prix in 2009.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
