It is therefore not surprising that, as early as the 1950s, he recognizes water as a “sculptural” value by creating “dynamic” and potentially mobile fountains, designed to “move within a given radius.”

The form and size of the works to which we have access today do not, however, account for the imposing projects that Marino executed during this period. If both the 8-meter movable structure built in 1959 for Alsthom at the Electrama show and the 40 meter-long fountain plan designed for the San Francisco Civic Center in 1964 suggest the artist’s ambitions, their imposing scales would only be revealed later through the patronage of companies such as Saint Gobain and installations made within privileged settings. Forty four years before their creation, the powerful and oscillating Monumental Fountains of the 1963 Contemporary Art exhibition already showed the characteristics of the future Monumenta works at the Grand Palais.

Born in 1920 in Italie, Francesco Marino di Teana was graduated of the Fine- Arts school of Buenos Aires (Argentine), and then moved to France in 1953.

Painter, sculptor, architecte, philosopher and poet, he devoted his whole life and all his creation to discover, develop and construct the modelization projects of urban space.
