Christopher Makos is a key figure in American photography of the 1970s and 1980s. After studying in the United States and then Paris, he became Man Ray’s assistant before settling in New York, where he immersed himself in a vibrant artistic and cultural scene. He quickly became close to Andy Warhol, becoming both his friend and official photographer.<\/p>\n
For over a decade, Makos accompanied Warhol on his travels throughout Europe and Latin America, as well as documenting his daily life at the Factory and his social circles. His lens captured a side of Warhol often overlooked: not just the Pop Art icon, but the man in motion, curious, sometimes vulnerable, at the heart of a network of artists, musicians, and celebrities. These photographs now constitute invaluable documentation of the Pop Art world and of Warhol’s own personality.<\/p>\n
In 1989, Makos published Warhol: A Photographic Memoir, a book in which he compiled some of these images.
