Solitudes…<\/p>\n

An eternal silent dialogue between a viewer and the artwork before them. An exploration of intangible worlds that are nonetheless deeply present. A pure and simple surrender to contemplation…<\/p>\n

The “solitudes” as proposed by the young artist Ma Sibo unfold before our eyes as multiple possible reinterpretations of our relationship with space. Visual space, memory space, pictorial space, or spiritual space, the canvases of this Chinese artist, born in Tianjin in 1979 and a graduate of the Fine Arts schools of Toulon and N\u00eemes, possess the universal dimension of uncertain yet strangely familiar spheres.<\/p>\n

Although the primary setting of Ma Sibo’s works consists of public places emptied of all human presence, his subject in fact revolves around the subtle interplay between presence and absence. These are not merely interiors, corridors, or parks that he confronts us with, but rather our own reality. Projected alternately into the nostalgia of a lost childhood or toward luminous windows emerging from darkness like our future hopes, we find ourselves lost in time, in our regrets, and in our desires.<\/p>\n

The checkboards, guitars, carafes, or carousels that inhabit his paintings are no longer mere “objects”. They have become true sensory catalysts which, acting like Marcel Proust’s madeleine, urge us to visually and emotionally reclaim precious moments of our lives. Fleeting points of color, in cool or warm tones, they balance the void that threatens to take over the canvas and open a gateway into these “atmospheric” worlds- deceptively realistic spaces, with an indefinable temporality. Captivated by these nostalgic ambiences, we can surrender to a personal meditation on the complexity of the self and of being.<\/p>\n

In these worlds devoid of spatial or temporal logic, at once symbolic and metaphorical, we rediscover the pleasure of contemplation through the play of light. This light, rendered vibrant and elusive through a remarkable use of pictorial material in sfumato, captivates and unsettles us. It is this light that, suffusing the canvas with a gentle nostalgia, draws us into the depths of our solitudes. Yet these \u201csolitudes\u201d are not those we flee or fear. On the contrary, they are those we long for without knowing how to reach them\u2014those that allow us to reconnect with ourselves, to reflect with a smile on the path we have traveled and the road still ahead.<\/p>\n

Through the sensitivity that emanates from his canvases, Ma Sibo transforms them into true poetic and meditative \u201cwindows,\u201d into which we gladly slip to withdraw from the world and let our minds drift, carried by the rhythm of luminous and flowing colors.<\/span><\/p>\n
