Qiu Zhijie<\/strong> is born in Fujian Province in China in 1969. In 1992 he graduated from The National Academy Of Fine Art and he works in the printmaking department. But now he lives in Beijing as a full-time artist. As well as an art critic and curator.<\/p>\n

Qiu is known for his calligraphy, photography and video installation works. He had shown his works all over the world. Like Inside Out: New Chinese Art <\/strong><\/em>at P.S.I Museum at New York. Also at the San Francisco Museum of modern art. In 1998 it shows it in Beijing, in London or at ICA<\/strong> in London. In 1999 he did Power of the Word<\/strong><\/em> at the Faulconer Gallery and other exhibition at Grinnell College, Iowa or U.S.A.2000<\/strong><\/em>. He works on Haus Der Kulturen der Welt <\/strong><\/em>at berlin. Then the Queens Museum in New York in 2001 and the 25th San Polo Biennial in Brazil.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the 1990s, Qiu also wrote a lot about Chinese conceptual art and performance art, which lead to the so-called controversy of signification \u2014\u2013the most important debate in art theory in the Chinese art world.<\/p>\n

EXHIBITION<\/h4>\n

In 1996, Qiu Zhijie was the co-organizer of the first video art exhibition PHENONMENA & IMAGE in the China Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. He also edited two books that include almost all the important documents in worldwide video art history. So he became one of the most important propellents in the field of new medial art in China.<\/p>\n

In 1999, Qiu curated an exhibition Post-sense Sensibility: Alien Bodies & Delusion<\/em> in the basement of a residential building in Beijing. It showed the radical experimental works of the young generation artist who used the human flesh as the artistic material, bringing a great dispute in the art circle. From then on Qiu was regarded as the leader and prolocutor of the young generation artist.<\/p>\n

In 2001, Qiu was the one of chief director of the important art magazine NEXTWAVE, then in 2002, he becomes the co-curator of the Long March project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
