YAZID OULAB is the third guest artist at Espace Art Absolument, which opened last September. For this occasion, the artist has chosen to show his recent creations, including a series of charcoal drawings entitled “poèmes génériques” (generic poems), which oscillate between graphic vibration and the transcription of genetic sequences. Also on display will be a video in which a lute player uses lines drawn by the artist as the strings of his instrument, erasing and striking them in turn… “Pensée” (Thought), a recently created sculpture with an evocative name, merges two suspended glasses containing ink into a single “philosophical object.” YAZID OULAB challenges and interprets these gestures and tools, meditating on the origin and notion of creation, like the initial impact of the Big Bang. In total, a series of drawings, sculptures, two large paintings with parallel lines vibrating like a film credits sequence, and a video will be on display. In addition, in keeping with one of the founding concepts of Espace Art Absolument, YAZID OULAB will offer his selection of recently published books—literature, poetry, and art books.
On this occasion, the FRIENDS OF ART ABSOLUMENT will be able to participate in a discussion with the artist and Philippe Piguet (historian and art critic) on January 9, 2018.
