A man of many facets with an ancestral soul, Yazid Oulab is an artist who seems nourished by centuries of the most diverse and richest civilizations. He presents himself as both an interpreter and a messenger, capable of analyzing and translating millennia of cultural, social, and spiritual histories into simplified forms and objects.
An unquestionable craftsman, deeply devoted to the gesture; a poet both fascinating and fascinating, for whom meaning emerges through the act of seeing; a tireless witness, potentially omniscient. Yazid Oulab embodies the figure of the accomplished artist, a man who, far removed from the excesses of our contemporary societies, seems ready to restore art's renewed nobility.
His works, objects, installations, sculptures, or videos serve as tools of expression and communication, encouraging us to considere the cultural plurality of our time while also grasping the historical significance of all things.
As for the artist himself, far more than a visual artis, he is a true "storyteller of History(ies)". A guide and philosopher, Yazid Oulab invites us to discover or rediscover the origins of writing, numbers, sprituality, religions, and nations. Between legends and histories yet to be written, Yazid Oulab is a liminal figure who, like his signature nails, creates conncections.
Son of a worker, mechanic and farmer father and an french teacher, intellectual mother, Yazid Oulab embodies both in his works and in his life the perfect balance between manual labor and intellectual pursuit. A creator who is as much physical as he is spritual, he challenges the unjust dichotomy that seeks to separate these two complementary dimensions of creation.
The story of his life rests on this subtle balance. Yazid Oulab is a man shaped by contradictions and experiences, who never views things from a single perspective.
