To conclude its 2014 exhibition program, Galerie Loft, in collaboration with Galerie Elion, presents an international Chinese collective of artists: 4HM
The artists forming this collective—Lin Mo, Nicolaï, Li Yongmin, and Cristóbal Ortega—have worked closely together to create this exhibition of works on paper, which will be presented in Paris, Madrid, and Beijing.
These works revolve around the theme of “thirst,” which, according to Ignacio Gómez de Liaño, author of the exhibition catalogue preface, “lies at the core of all things, at the deepest level of existence.”
This “thirst,” to which each artist responds in their own way—Nicolaï through plastic and conceptual challenges, Cristóbal Ortega through flowing forms that evoke an evanescent world, Lin Mo through petrified wood transformed into letters and arboreal gestures, and Li Yongmin through an offering of calm and humble simplicity—seems intended to soothe that which “devours us as it devours every human being and every thing that exists.”
Born in 1962 in Harbin, China. Living in Barcelona, Beijing and Paris. Lin Mo was born in Harbin, China and graduated from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 1984. In 1985, Lin joined the North Arts group and then was engaged in testing Chinese ink and wash painting creation in Beijing.
Born in 1964 in Iceland. Lives between Paris, Barcelona, and Beijing.
Li Yong-Min was born in 1975 in the Chinese province of Sangdong. He creates a new technique in the world of contemporary art, inspired by the Buddhist iconographic tradition of the mandala.
